.Performance Schedule 2:10pm - 3:00pm Everette Drake Like so many entertainers, Everett’s musical roots began in the church, singing in the choir and later serving as Choir Director of his beloved First Baptist Church South Inglewood. His dynamic passion for singing and directing were soon recognized by other gospel singers and he was tapped to join The Johnson Ensemble, a local singing group. They were enormously popular during the 1970s and recorded several albums. Their signature album, “The Harvest Is Plentiful” brought them national recognition. It didn’t take long for Everett to catch the eye of other Music City’s heavyweights. They include Donna Fargo, Brenda Lee, Eddie Rabbitt, Barbara Mandrell, Wynonna Judd, Garth Brooks, Martina McBride, Brooks & Dunn and crossover giants, Lyle Lovett and Bonnie Raitt. His tours with Ms. Fargo and Mr. Lovett took him to audiences throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, the Caribbean, Korea, Japan and the Philippines.
3:20pm - 4:10pm Dara Tucker and the Dara Tucker Band Dara Tucker moved to Nashville in 2004 to chase her dream of becoming a professional jazz singer. She began her professional career in jazz music in 2009 when she released her debut studio album, “All Right Now,” Since then, she has released three more studio albums; "Soul Said Yes" (2011), “The Sun Season" (2014) and "Oklahoma Rain" (2017). Apart from her acclaimed studio albums, Tucker has also released a limited-release, live performance album, "Dara Tucker Live" in 2013. Besides, the singer/songwriter has performed internationally with her jazz musical group since 2009. She opened for Grammy Award winning Jazz vocalist Gregory Porter on June 4, 2016 at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center in Nashville, TN. Tucker frequently performs at the Nashville Jazz Workshop, and Rudy's Jazz Club.
4:30pm - 5:20pm Chazz Williams
Chazz Williams is an artist with a unique style of Inspirational, instrumental music. Being a native of Chicago, his music reflects elements of the Chicago smooth Jazz sound. He studied classical and jazz music throughout high school, but turned down music scholarships and went on to receive his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology.
He has appeared on the BET JAZZ NETWORK, and has performed at the Gospel Music Stellar Awards and has performed for our President on the nationally televised PBS special, IN PERFORMANCE AT THE WHITE HOUSE. Additionally Chazz has toured as a member of the Cece Winans band, and has shared concert stages with Anita Baker, Joshua Redmond, THE O’JAYS, Daryl Coley, Richard Smallwood, Fred Hammond, and THE WINANS. He has been side - man for Israel Houghton, Kim Burrell, Michael English, Shirley Caesar, Tramaine Hawkins, Donnie McClurkin, Ben Tankard and The Soul Children of Chicago, to name a few.
5:45pm - 6:30p Blair Bryant Blair Bryant is a 23 year old emerging contemporary-jazz artist, currently signed to the Innervision Records Label. He is a musical prodigy, plays over 14 instruments and is a prolific, writer and producer. A product of the UMKC Conservatory of Music and the Grammy Music Experience, his first release “New Colours” was ranked one of the top 10 best Jazz CDs of 2015 (Talkingsmoothjazz.com) and yielded a national Top 10 hit single “Lightning Bug.” (Groove Jazz Music) His second CD “Gold” released August of 2016 has had three songs that has been on the charts "Lift Off", "Secret Agent", and "Killa B".
6:45 - 7:30pm - Joe Freel From his first role at ten years old as the lead character, Tom, in his elementary school’s production of “Tom Sawyer,” vocalist Joe Freel progressed to significant performances while earning a Bachelor of Music degree from Boston’s esteemed Berklee College of Music. Between Tom Sawyer and Berklee were musical theatre, wedding and rock bands, madrigal groups and jazz club appearances. Freel has dedicated his life to the pursuit of excellence in vocal performance.For the past six years, Freel’s appearances at the renown Nashville Jazz Workshop have resulted in a significant group of fans and colleagues who resonate with the quality of his musicianship. His energetic but soothing vocal delivery, punctuated with a candid sense of humor both on and off stage, create long remembered performances. Freel’s primary vocal influences are Al Jarreau, Mark Murphy, Little Jimmy Scott and Tony Bennett. His personal sound is a unique blend of jazz, pop and intimate speech level singing.
7:45pm - 8:50pm Tim Cunningham When Tim Cunningham was faced with the choice between the football field or the musical stage, lucky for us, he chose the latter. Having played the saxophone for over half his life, Tim spent his college years at Michigan State splitting his time between playing defense and playing music. And although a football scholarship saw him through school, his passion for the sax has carried him well beyond as he passed up an NFL contract and eventually pursued a career in music. For decades the words "smooth , sultry, cool & funky" have been used to describe Tim's high energy and emotional stage show as his sexy blend of smooth jazz and soulful R&B connects with people of all ages, races and genres of music. All of the Fisk Festival recording artist will have merchandise available in our Merch area next to the WFSK booth. Please support the artists by purchasing music from them.
